Things are going for awesome!
We found a couple of suitable rental homes over the weekend and this morning, the insurance relocators picked up the ball and ran with it: we're moving into our first choice temp house on Wednesday (9/17). They're not only taking care of renting furniture but stuff like and pots and pans... and sheets. I've spent most of today getting utilities arranged.
The insurance company's contractor says they're ~65% done making their estimate and should be done tomorrow.
The kitties have been boarding for a little over two weeks now and it'll be so great to get them back home. We found a few days ago that Toona had scabs (from burns) on the edge of his pinnae, they're healing and it kinda looks like he has white ear-liner on. Jules and Samlet are doin' just fine, too.
The main disk drive in my deskmac (the one with all the pictures (or at least, to mid-June 2008)) has been recovered and is being backed up to multiple places. I haven't dug into the pictures but I think they're all there (rsync didn't complain about copying stuff). The last remaining bits can probably be scrounged from my work's backups.
Say, did you pack away some clothing and important papers yet? It's been nearly two weeks since I suggested it. I know at least one reader has checked into getting renter's insurance as a result of our experience (sadly, only one). I'd like to know if me being preachy is reaching anybody, 'cos I sure don't like being preachy. The next time you go to the grocery store, everything could change and you might need to store $300 worth of Trader Joe's food with your neighbors.
I'd be very sad to find out months/years later that no one learned from this.
