the Allstate property adjuster came out today and took lots of measurements and made a rough drawing.
the insurance-hired fire investigator came out from sactown and looked at the house: the source of the fire was almost certainly the knob-and-tube wiring underneath the subfloor in the outside corner of the bedroom (and almost certainly combined with animal activity, although nothing definite was found).
we spent a lot of time at Adobe Animal Hospital today, giving the kitties love. Toona's not having a very good time of it; he has always been a "do not touch my feet." cat and now he has bandages on them. about every 12 seconds, he violently shakes one of his feet. it's a little sad, but also kinda funny. when he hits the back of the steel cage, it sounds like he's drumming.
we could use references on general contractors and/or architects. if you've worked with one you liked, especially if he's done work in Santa Cruz County already, we'd really like to talk to them.
a lot of people ask how they can help and right now, we don't have much to tell them. we're still in temporary temporary housing and the desire to acquire more stuff is lacking.
if you really want to help, learn from our example. MAKE SURE you have emergency clothes and important documents collected and ready to go. get a safety deposit box for important stuff. if you live in california, you should be doing this already; if it's not fire, it'll be an earthquake.
don't do it tomorrow. do it tonight.
ps: srsly ok?
