the Allstate property adjuster came out today and went over stuff with us. she took pictures and got a basic assessment of the structure of the house, room by room.

quite a lot of things got set in motion today. there was contact from .... hm, i think it was Marriot relocation on behalf of Allstate with information about what she was looking for in terms of a rental house for us; she's also arranging to take over billing of the place we're staying, so that's a HUGE help. we went by one place she mentioned and didn't find it specifically, but the houses in the neighborhood all look acceptable. she'll have more addressess tomorrow.

we know exactly what our coverage is and a lot of how it might come out; it looks like the structure coverage is more than adequate, the personal property sounds appropriate, and we are covered for living expenses for an entire year.

tomorrow, we'll meet with the Allstate requested fire inspector, who's coming down from Sactown. the property adjuster will also be out again.

the borrowed windows laptop is ok for now, but we could kinda use a nearly-trashed throwaway laptop with wifi that can run firefox and putty; i imagine it will get trashed by the time this process is done.

Toona is doing fine but he's not eating, so we're going to visit Adobe tomorrow and give him lots of lubbin'. he ate readily the other day when i gave him rubs, so it's not a problem. docs report he doing a-ok.

talked to my work today and things are peachy-keen; my boss, billp, he rocks the fucking house. i am off for this week; they're working on getting me a replacement laptop.

i gathered up hard drives from various machines and stashes and storage in the closet; the property adjuster said that it would be possible to get data recovery on them, which is a huge relief!!! the deskmac was relatively current with the picture archive, only missing a few recent things from the camera. there are also backup drives that appear to be viable; i also found a couple of unopened still-static-jacketed drives in a bookshelf which i can use to do some recovery, as well as the dang ole sata enclosures i've been looking for for a month, all pristine inside a plastic box on a lower shelf.

i think i finished all of the irish red ale #4 last night. the "fire roasted" version tastes as exquisite as the strawberries in the famous koan.

also took a bunch of pictures today, probably 400 or so. near the end of the day, i took the 1-day old camera out of my pocket and realized something had tinked the LCD and destroyed it. so there'll be a replacement for the replacement... gah! pictures might be online sometime later this week... i'm also asking my neighbor for his scary breaking-news pics.
