while we were out getting carnitas, shopping at OSH and trader joe's in capitola, our house caught fire and burned.
the Boulder Creek fire dept got there at 15:07 and the bedroom/livingroom/hottub deck end of the house was fully involved. the firefighters said the call originally came in as Primavera (the street on the other side of the San Lorenzo) but they got another call with more accurate information and were able to re-route the trucks to River Road before they got to Primavera. we're ~3mi from the fire station and there's a hydrant about 50ft away from the top of our driveway. the fire dept. said it was probably started by an electrical fire in the outside corner of the bedroom. it appears to me to have started directly underneath our bed.
our close neighbor got some pictures (still to come) and there is a completely pants-shitting-terrifying +40ft column of flame shooting from the kitchen/washroom area.
the news reported on the fire, but got some details wrong: Fire damagers Boulder Creek home. our crested gecko "Denali" is the only animal that died. "Bertie" the bearded dragon, and Jules and Samlet the cats all showed up that evening; Tonka the tortoise was chomping on weeds in this meadow for the entire time. Toona the cat didn't show up but we weren't overly worried because he's probably the most resourceful of the three cats.
i filed a claim with Allstate; the lady on the phone said the adjuster would call by tuesday. Tuesday!?! it's Saturday and my house burned down! wtf, Allstate!
we took all the pets we had (Jules, Samlet, Tonka, Bertie) over to Christy Derenzi's house for overnight safekeeping.
we stayed in a cabin at Jaye's Timberlane Resort that night.
